Skywatch Friday

Two views of hazy skies this week:

bodhi tree2, originally uploaded by c_p_lew.

This is the Bodhi tree near my house at dawn. It shed all its leaves about two weeks ago and the new buds are starting to come out. The sky was very pink at dawn; a few minutes later, it displayed various shades of gray.

roof decoration and flowers, originally uploaded by c_p_lew.

I took a long walk during lunch time earlier this week and caught a picture of the roof of the temple behind my office, framed by frangipani flowers.

This picture is my contribution to Skywatch Friday, hosted on Welcome to Wiggers World

Bodhi trees is a species of fig tree, under which the Buddha to meditate until he reached enlightenment. Many of the trees in SE Asia came from cuttings from trees in India though most grew wild. Temples would be built around large trees, or transplant trees from other sites. When they are outside temple areas, people still make offerings to them - they often have small shrines hidden in the roots and may be wrapped with cloth.

The other tree is a variety of Plumeria or Frangipani, know here as Don Champha. The Champha flower is the national flower of Laos.
